Conservation
Since the dropping of fences with Kruger National Park in 2017, Thornybush Nature Reserve has seen unprecedented elephant activity. Though we love to see elephants thriving in the area, they are sadly destroying our large trees at an unsustainable rate.
Between Waterbuck and Shimungwe Lodges, we are embarking on an ambitious mission to save them! Studies have shown elephant damage is vastly reduced through wire wrapping without causing harm to the tree or other wildlife. It costs just R180 to wrap one tree and our primary goal is to protect 1,000 large trees across our reserve.
We have already invested R20,000 towards this project, protecting over 100 trees. But, we need your help to get to our target of saving 1,000! Find out more about the reasons for this project, and how you can help, by downloading our leaflet below.
